The Michigan Oil and Gas Association (MOGA) is pleased to announce the selection of Jason Geer as its new President and Chief Executive Officer. Geer joins MOGA having served nearly 10 years as the Michigan Chamber of Commerce’s Director of Energy & Environmental Policy.
“We are very pleased to welcome Jason as President and CEO of the Michigan Oil and Gas Association,” said Brian Dorr, MOGA board chair. “We have worked extensively with Jason over many years. He is a professional and highly regarded advocate on energy issues who has been a great ally to Michigan’s home state producers. Jason’s strong background in energy and environmental policy, combined with his experience as part of Michigan’s leading business association, ensures MOGA and its independent oil and natural gas producer members will continue to be in good hands.”
Previously, Geer served as director of government affairs for the Midland Area Chamber of Commerce before joining the Michigan Chamber where he led advocacy and policy development efforts. Geer began his career in the office of former Michigan Congressman Dave Camp. He has both policy and political experience as part of his now 18-year career.
“I’m excited to join MOGA where I look forward to building on the economic success story of Michigan’s home-state producers – people who care deeply about their employees, communities, our environment and contributing to Michigan’s energy needs,” said Geer. “I admire the entrepreneurial spirit of MOGA members, many of whom are family businesses that span several generations. I can think of no better group of people with whom to work and no better association to have the opportunity to lead.”
Geer holds a B.A. in Political Science from Saginaw Valley State University. He succeeds Erin McDonough, who led MOGA since 2014.

On May 25, the Board of State Canvassers voted unanimously to direct the Bureau of Elections to do a full review of the signatures. By CBFM’s own account, only 29,392 signatures collected by the CBFM fall within the 180-day window of the effective Nov. 5, 2018 filing date. This would be 223,131 signatures short of the minimum needed for this petition, which is being treated like it was filed in November 2018, back when the minimum number of signatures needed to be considered on the ballot was 252,523. The rest of the signatures collected outside of the 180-day window for petitioning would be considered stale and would not count towards the 252,523 signatures needed.
MOGA will keep you updated as this story continues to develop.

The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) is one of the most important ways the Michigan oil and gas industry helps improve and protect Michigan’s natural resources.
The Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund (MNRTF) was established under the Kammer Recreational Land Trust Fund Act of 1976 to provide a permanent funding source for the public acquisition of land for resource protection and public outdoor recreation. Funding is provided by revenue derived from royalties on the sale and lease of state-owned oil, gas and mineral rights. This landmark piece of legislation came to fruition thanks to the collaborative efforts of Michigan Oil and Gas Association (MOGA), Michigan United Conservation Clubs (MUCC) and state legislators on behalf of all Michigan citizens.
MNRTF has contributed immeasurably to protecting our state’s natural beauty and helped paved the way for wise and prudent development of our state’s abundant energy resources. Since the creation of the MNRTF in 1976, the oil and gas industry has contributed over $1 billion to Michigan’s state & local parks, waterways, trails and nature preserves throughout all 83 counties.

We often think about the great trails and parks the Michigan Natural Resources Trust Fund and the State Parks Endowment Fund have helped to create and maintain, but what about the connection between Michigan's local oil and gas production and our state's abundant wildlife?
In an opinion column published yesterday in The Detroit News, Leon Drolet, Macomb County Commissioner and Chair of the Michigan Taxpayers Alliance details how oil and natural gas have helped fuel wildlife recovery across the Great Lakes Region.
"Environmental awareness, conservation practices, and regulation have substantially improved our environment. But the role of oil and gas is rarely understood or appreciated. It is a sad irony that anti-fracking and anti-oil pipeline activists are working to ban the very industries that made the resurgence of our forests and improved air quality possible".
